BQ27542-G1: GDK Unavailable?

Part Number: BQ27542-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, EV2400

I am trying to start development on a new project using the BQ27542 lithium fuel gauge, and am having trouble accessing files that I think I need.  I've used this gauge before with TI's Gauge Development Kit (GDK) and BQSTUDIO software.  However, when I navigate to http://www.ti.com/tool/BQSTUDIO and attempt to download the Battery Management Studio software, I receive an error saying the file is not available.  Also, if I do a Google search for "TI GDK," one of the first results is the product page http://www.ti.com/tool/BQ27GDK000EVM, but that appears to be a dead link.

Has there been a change to the tools used for development with TI's Impedance Track fuel gauges?

Thanks,

Adam J.

  • Hello Adam,

The GDK is no longer supported moving forward for the newer TI parts.

The EVM is still supported by bqStudio and the EV2400 tool chain.

  • Kang,

Ok.  Going forward, what is the recommended way to perform a learning cycle, instead of using the GDK?  Is there other hardware TI recommends using for gas gauges such as the BQ27542?

Thanks for the quick response, by the way!

    Adam J.

  • Hello Adam,

Yes sorry for the bad news.

We have used labview within TI for bench automation, we have also used pyVisa and USB-GPIB or USB-RS232 to control power supply and electronic load. There's also a Keithley source meter that can be automated through RS232 or GPIB. We are planning to release an app note of how we do this later in the year, but you could try looking into these for now. Let me know, hope this helps.
