LMR33610: Buck converter direct connection to solar panel

Hi All!

Can the LMR33610 (or similar) buck converter connect directly to solar panel (5...10...20W) for charging of 12V SLA? Any experience on that? Does the "current source" mode of solar panel affect the operation of DC/DC (buck) converter?

All dedicated charger ICs have some drawback to be used in a maximum simple support schema of field data node.

    Hi Tiit,

    If the maximum open circuit voltage of solar panel is below 36V, then it's OK to connect LMR33610 to solar panel directly.  

    Place proper bulk capacitor on LMR33610 input will reduce the effect of current source mode of solar panel.
