BQ76PL455A: Daisy chain stack communication design

Part Number: BQ76PL455A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ79606A-Q1

Dear experts,

My customer is going to design a BMS system in industrial energy storage(UPS). They are going to link 10 boards(each board has a BQ76PL455A on it) together with twisted pair(0.5m distance between each BQ76PL455A) by daisy chain communication.

They need our experts to help verify that whether BQ76PL455A can support 10 nodes daisy chain stack communication based on thier application, And could you help to share some suggestions on their design, such as some design tips? Thanks for your support.

  • Hello User,

BQ76PL455A can support 16 ICs in daisy chain with twisted pair as DS states.

If customer can use centralized daisy chain(all AFEs are in one board) in stead of distributed,

it would be robust since 455A's daisy chain is Data pass through mode not reclocking as our next gen bq79606a-q1.

If you use 455A for distributed daisy chain, the interface between bridge 455A and MCU is single-ended UART which is not designed

for long cable communication. I would also recommend to put one 455A in the same board with MCU.

Here is 455A design appnote for your reference.

    Thanks!
