BQ34Z100: Gauging Parameter Calculator (GPC) Tool sysrate calculation failure

Part Number: BQ34Z100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO,

Hi,

I have been getting the same errors over and over with different battery characterization submittals.

So, I went back to a working copy and resubmitted it. I got the same errors back this time, yet in the past the report i got back was good.

Attached is my data and report (this used to work!)

sysrate_rel_dis_rel (CHM1 Bat2 5-29-2018).zip

  • THis is the error I get..

Warning: Automatic firmware properties detection failed. Rb_select defaults to 2. Please make sure that chem ID loaded in the GG file is the same as ID specified in the config.txt
Warning: Automatic firmware properties detection failed. basescale defaults to 1. Please make sure that chem ID loaded in the GG file is the same as ID specified in the config.txt
Warning: Automatic firmware properties detection failed.

  • In the meantime I have repeated this process with another different zip entry that had worked in the past and I get the same results:

                   0
Warning: Automatic firmware properties detection failed. Rb_select defaults to 2. Please make sure that chem ID loaded in the GG file is the same as ID specified in the config.txt
Warning: Automatic firmware properties detection failed. basescale defaults to 1. Please make sure that chem ID loaded in the GG file is the same as ID specified in the config.txt
Warning: Automatic firmware properties detection failed.

  • Let me take a look at your files first. Also, I will submit your files by myself and see what might be wrong.

  • IT would be greatly appreciated! We are in production but updating our battery chemistry profiles.

We cannot  proceed until this is resolved.

If you need additional data let me know.

  • The computation fails because Ra table in GG file does not match chemical ID.

    Chemical ID Ra table is:

    Cell3 R_a flag = FF55
    Cell3 R_a 0 = 94
    Cell3 R_a 1 = 77
    Cell3 R_a 2 = 70
    Cell3 R_a 3 = 63
    Cell3 R_a 4 = 64
    Cell3 R_a 5 = 64
    Cell3 R_a 6 = 70
    Cell3 R_a 7 = 77
    Cell3 R_a 8 = 84
    Cell3 R_a 9 = 89
    Cell3 R_a 10 = 91
    Cell3 R_a 11 = 103
    Cell3 R_a 12 = 120
    Cell3 R_a 13 = 137
    Cell3 R_a 14 = 131

    But your GG file has:

Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra Flag ff55
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 0 10
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 1 7
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 2 7
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 3 7
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 4 7
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 5 7
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 6 7
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 7 8
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 8 8
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 9 8
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 10 9
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 11 10
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 12 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 13 28
Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 14

    153

The tool needs to detect the type of the divider used in particular firmware by comparing Ra table to default Ra table,

that is why it is essential to follow the document describing file preparation and make steps of:

    - programming selected chemical ID

    - exporting GG file

    Regards,
    Yevgen

  • Hello Yevgen,

I have updated the gg.csv file and device to the recommended Chemistry 0808 (see attached)

Now I am getting different errors.

  • You need to perform actual programming of chem ID 808 using bqstudio, so that Ra values will become default.

    Your Ra values are:

Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra Flag ff55
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 0 16
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 1 13
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 2 12
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 3 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 4 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 5 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 6 12
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 7 13
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 8 14
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 9 15
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 10 15
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 11 17
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 12 20
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 13 23
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 14 22

The actual default value for 808 are:

    Cell3 R_a flag = FF55
    Cell3 R_a 0 = 94
    Cell3 R_a 1 = 77
    Cell3 R_a 2 = 70
    Cell3 R_a 3 = 63
    Cell3 R_a 4 = 64
    Cell3 R_a 5 = 64
    Cell3 R_a 6 = 70
    Cell3 R_a 7 = 77
    Cell3 R_a 8 = 84
    Cell3 R_a 9 = 89
    Cell3 R_a 10 = 91
    Cell3 R_a 11 = 103
    Cell3 R_a 12 = 120
    Cell3 R_a 13 = 137
    Cell3 R_a 14 = 131

You values can be either equal to default, or equal to  default / 4, depending on the firmware.

However, they are neither of these tho cases, which indicates that chemistry was not programmed prior to exporting the GG file.

  • I just checked again.

I selected the 0808 chemistry from the chemistry tab as shown below and successfully updated my device pressing "Update Chemistry from Database".

Then I view the Ra tables by going to the data memory tab and clicking on Read All. My tables are updated to be as before.. not what you are suggesting:

Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra Flag ff55
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 0 16
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 1 13
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 2 12
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 3 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 4 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 5 11
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 6 12
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 7 13
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 8 14
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 9 15
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 10 15
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 11 17
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 12 20
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 13 23
    Ra Tables Ra0 Table Ra 14 22

  • We  programmed ChemID 0808 to bq34z100 v0.16 and got the following values,

    which coincide with defaults.

This is with the bqStudio 1.3.97 and Chemistry version 759

What version are you using for both bq34z100 and bqstudio?
What chemistry updater version do you have?

  • Thank you, I had an older version of chemistry profiles loaded.

I now have the correct impedance tables.

I will retry and let you know if this solved the issue.

  • Still failing.. but for other reasons:

    Here is the report

    0 0
Warning: DODdifference before and after discharge less than 70% Qmax accuracy reduced: -13.8374126502211
Warning: Voltage under load 2144 mV is higher than OCV 2140mV. Please check correctness of your chem ID. 0

    HEre is the data

    sysrate_rel_dis_rel (CHM8 AGM 01-18-2020).zip

  • These error reports indicate the ways in which you data is not matching the requirement by the tool that is described in documentation:

    >Warning: DODdifference before and after discharge less than 70% Qmax accuracy reduced: -13.8374126502211

This means that you have 13% of SOC difference between start and end point, whereas at lest 70% is required. You have to charge

battery to full and discharge to empty to get >70% SOC difference.

    >Voltage under load 2144 mV is higher than OCV 2140mV. Please check correctness of your chem ID. 0

This indicates that chemical ID might be incorrectly chosen because OCV of this chemical ID is actually lower then you discharge voltage.

You might need to rerun chemical ID selection to verify that ID you are using is correct.

Sometimes this issue can happen due to overcharge - if you charge the cell higher then specified voltage and taper current, you can have voltage under

    load higher then OCV.

    Yevgen

  • Yevgen,

Thank you for the detailed response!

Your information helps me a lot.

I will recheck our profile setup and then re-run the charge and discharge with corrected information.

Let me leave this thread open for a few days and I'll get back to you with confirmation of success.

  • This may not be related but I cannot get a valid response back from the GPC TOOL:

Attached is my submittal zip file and subsequent report.

Can you please let me know what I am doing wrong?

    sysrate_rel_dis_rel CHM9 Flooded(01-29-2020).zip

    sysrate_rel_dis_rel (CHM8 AGM 01-24-2020)-report (1) - Copy.zip

    Thank you

  • Regarding your new request:

In your log file there are several short sections with discharge interspersed with charge, so tool gets mislead into detecting charge termination in wrong place.

There should be no discharge current anywhere in the data except the main discharge portion.

Removing the discharge portions that occur during charge from the data file will make it work.
