LM5050-1: VS power supply

Part Number: LM5050-1

I have an application where the current limited  switching power supply must accommodate 0V (short) on the output or -0.3V(inductive load protection device)  The data sheet for LM5050-1 is ambiguous in regard to operation when "OUT" is at 0V when 5V is applied to VS.  What I would like to know is if LM5050-1 will operate normally when VS=5V and VOUT is either 0V or -0.3V. IE no oscillations, destroyed FET, FET shut off.

  • Hello John,

With Vs powered from separate supply, IN and OUT can operate as low as 1V.

Below 1V we don't guarantee stable operation as specified in the first page of the datasheet.

But having said that, we don't see any reason for the MOSFET to be destroyed or damaged.

    Regards,

    Kari.
