BQ25970: Question about developing a fast charger for 1S battery using the BQ25970 and the BQ25890

Part Number: BQ25970
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-01582, , BQ25890, BQ25890EVM-664, , EV2400

Hello, I am developing a product that will fast charge using USB-C. I was wondering which development kits I should use to develop a charging circuit for the battery that uses the BQ25970 switched cap charger and the BQ25890 charger IC. I've found evaluation boards for both of them and one that integrates both but isn't up for sale. That one is the TIDA-01582 reference design (PWR881). The PWR881 board seems perfect for developing a fast charger with both of them but I'm not sure how to use it without having it manufactured first.

My question to you is, if it isn't up for sale then how should I go about developing an application that integrates both of these chips? Would I get the two evaluation boards developed for each individual IC along with the EV2400 and connect them somehow? The two individual eval boards that I speak of are the BQ25970EVM-893 and the BQ25890EVM-664. Please let me know how to start working with the BQ25970 and the BQ25890 as I would like to get started right away.

Best,

Ben

  • Hi Ben,

Thanks for reaching us, you are right the TIDA-01582 is not a purchasable board. Most of customers is develop their own hardware with BQ25970 to start design, because varied MCU/AP and master charger are required.  I would suggested to use BQ25970EVM-893 and EV2400 to start the design.
