TPS62140: What happens if VOS Pin 14 goes open circuit?

Expert 6550 points
Part Number: TPS62140

Hi Team,

What happens if VOS PIN 14 suddenly goes "open circuit"? Device is being used to go from 12V to 3V3.

Regards

Andreas

  • Andreas,

I do not have open/short test data for TPS62140.  VOS is a direct input to the DCS control circuit.  I cannot imagine that anything good could happen of VOS is open.

  • Hi John,

We need more information about what happens e.g. short-circuit at input, IC goes up in smoke, Vout going to 0 or going to Vin, IC latched or shuts down...can you possibly investigate?

    Thank you!

    Regards

    Andreas

  • Andreas,

I can try it in the lab.  I will need to order an EVM and borrow some equipment, so it it will take some time.  I should have an answer next week.

  • Andreas,

A search of e2e found open / short test results for similar part.  When VOS is opened the IC is damaged.

Device is switching and output voltage shows high ripple--from 17V to 8V.  Device consumes ~70mA in this state.  After a few minutes of operation, output voltage went to 0 while IC still switched occasionally and drew ~70 mA.  Device output voltage is high approximately one half of Vin.
