CCS/TPS929120-Q1: Can't update USB2ANY firmware

Part Number: TPS929120-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

I have successfully installed TPS929120-Q1. My USB2ANY uses 2.8.2.0 version firmware

Now when starting TPS929120-Q1 I get message saying:

Update Firmware
The device is using firmware version 2.8.2.0. Recommended firmware version is 3.0.2.1.
  • Step 1: UPDATE Firmware
  • Step 2: After firmware update succeeds, please click Finish

At this point selecting SKIP UPDATE return to GUI but program doesn't connect.

When I select UPDATE a note saying:

Putting device into BSL mode

appears but nothing happens(actually some logical device is disconnected from system

  • Hi

You can reference the TPS929120 EVM’s user guide to update

  • Thank you for referring me to TPS929120 EVM’s user guide. I assure you, this is very first thing I tried when I spotted the issue.

When GUI starts it detects my USB2ANY firmware version is 2.8.2.0 (minimal version GUI supports for update). Now on selecting 'Update' GUI displays additional note "Putting device into BSL mode" and stays in this state.

    Firmware update is not happening.

  • Indeed referring to user guide is first thing I tried.

My USB2ANY is already on version 2.8.2.0 and GUI detects is properly but it stucks with message:

    Putting device into BSL mode

    when I select 'Update'

I also tried brand new USB2ANY and followed firmware update instructions from user guide to the letter with exactly the same results.

  • Hi Sefas,

    Thanks for your patience.

From my understanding, you have downloaded the software “USB2ANY Explorer” to upload the firmware of USB2ANY to 2.8.2.0. And during the upgrade process, you have faced below prompt window that told you to press the BSL button (S1).

If my understanding is correct, could you try to press the button again while seeing the note “Putting device into BSL mode”?

If above step does not work, could you try different USB ports of your PC? It is very strange as we do not have face such issue before.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Felix Wang

  • Hello,

Indeed, I have "USB2ANY Explorer"  SW to upgrade my USB2ANY devices to 2.8.2.0 firmware. And this works correctly.

Issue is with TPS929120-Q1 SW. When I start TPS929120-Q1 it asks me to update firmware on my USB2ANY device to version 3.0.2.1. But when I select 'UPDATE' button I got "Putting device into BSL mode" message and it stays like this:

  • Here is screen TPS929120-Q1 is stuck.

  • Hi Sefas,

    Thanks for your information.

Have you tried to wait for a minute? or will the note persist for a very long time (about ten minutes)?

if so, could you try to press the BSL button of the USB2ANY while the note appears?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Felix

  • Note doesn't go away for few hours.

No difference if I press BSL button.

No difference if I put USB2ANY into bootloader mode (press BSL button and then plug in USB)

I tried stand alone TPS929120-Q1 as well as web client with similar results

  • Hi Sefas,

    That's strange.

I am not sure if the network of your PC is keeping connected while doing the firmware upgrade.

I also have contacted with the GUI developer to see if they have any comments on it. If there are any feedback i will let you know.

    Thanks and best regards,

    Felix

  • I wonder if this coul be caused by incompatible drivers used by my windows isntallation?

  • Hi Sefas,

I am not sure if the problem persists.

The GUI developer could not produce the issue on their side nor do I, so we could not provide some useful comments so far. We may need more time to figure out the issue. Or could you try on another different PC?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Felix
