TPS56339: Inductor Saturation Current

Hi all

My customer is working on a design with these specs:

Vin=12V ... 18V, Vout=5V, Iout=1A

and he wants to use a 15uH inductor.

What is the inductor saturation current he should choose ?

And do you have general guidelines for choosing the saturation current ?

Hi,

Please refer datasheet page 17, table 2 recommended component value.

L select 5.6 uH or 6.8uH

Saturation current ~4.7A (Refer TPS56339's overcurrent protection value)

(when you calculate the L, ignore IOUT 1A which used in your application)

Thank you for the quick reply and understood. I suspected that one should select the inductor saturation current to match the device overcurrent protection value. However the customer asked if he couldn't use a lower value as his design is quite space limited.
