Sorry if this question does not refer to this forum. I just could not find any forum on packaging, and since TO-3 packages are used in discrete power devices, I thought of posting it here.

I am looking for some source of TO-3 package (Transistor Outline). I found in TI ' s website the drawings of few TO packages. The Customer service somehow could not locate them in their database. I am not posting those drawings here, but the link is www.ti.com/.../MMBF001 and http://www.ti.com/packaging/docs/searchtipackages.tsp?packageName=TO . Can anyone please let me know if one could buy those packages (without any device mounted in them) from TI? Any help would be greatly appreciated, even if someone knows of any source other than TI. Thank you very much.

Hello Sudipto,

Thank you for posting to the TI E2E Forum.

OPA541 and OPA512 are examples of some older devices that came in the TO can package.
However there is no stock and the devices are Not Recommended for New Designs.

TI does not sell empty packages, without die, and we cannot tell you where you might find them.
This package is very old and hard to find.

If other E2E users have any thoughts I invite them to reply to your post.

Thanks a lot, Ed. This cleared a lot of confusion. Will appreciate if someone can cite some source of TO3 wafers, as it is easier for us to work with and is sufficient for the time being.
