TPS2663: dynamic current limiting

Part Number: TPS2663
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2662,

Is it possible to set a dynamic current limit for the TPS2663. For exmple by using a digital potentiometer or with the kind of solution i found in slyy168.pdf: 11 ways to protect your powerpath )page 22 for a tps2662:

Adding a control loop which injects current into the Ilim pin

Many thanks,

Rob

  • Rob,

The only issue that I see with using a digital pot would be noise injection into the very sensitive current limit node from the pot.  The digital pot will work functionally.

I have used nfets switches with parallel resistors to change the ILIM of power switches multiple times in the past.  This is a lower noise solution, but will work if you have GPIO available to control them and can tolerate a lower degree of granularity of current limits.

Please click resolved if you think this has addressed your question, if not, simply reply and I can assist you further.
