BQ78350-R1: preventing resetting the device statistics or disabling the access to those

Team,

is it possible to prevent the device statistics (cycle count, over and undervoltage, etc.) getting reset? Like, for instance, to disable the access to a reset function?

Alternatively, is it possible to lock the read access to these statistics?

    Hi Bart,

    The commands to access the Lifetime data are read only. There is a LifetimeDataReset command, but this command is not available when the device is in SEALED mode. However, in SEALED mode, it is still possible to read the Lifetime data.

    Table 17-2 in the BQ78350-R1 Technical Reference Manual shows which commands are blocked in SEALED mode.

    Just one more question, is it possible to unseal the device without having the Manufacturer key and MAC?

    I believe there are default unseal keys (0414 3672 and for the full access FFFF FFFF), but understood that they can be changed. Does it protect from the ability to unseal the device?

    Hi Bart,

    Once the device is sealed, it cannot be unsealed without the key. The key can be changed and it should be changed if you want to prevent others from being able to unseal the device. Once the device is sealed, it can never permanently return to UNSEALED or FULL ACCESS states - every time there is a reset, it will return to SEALED mode.

    The different states are described in more detail in section 11.5 of the device TRM.
