hello,

i want to search a solution (IC) from 8-16 Leds (VF about 3V /LED) in Serie on about 60V System Voltage (sinking mode) in a range from 0.....50mA constant current (max. 100mA) and pulsed with up to 10khz..

I found the IC LM3463. The EVM Board has 200mA. Does it works with lower IC current from min. 1mA the IC LM3463? it is possible to reach a accuracy with 1% of constant current?

Would the IC be suitable or which IC would you recommend me?

Hi Steve,

I am afraid that LM3463 is not the correct part as it cannot do pulse control (PWM dimming) and it cannot guarantee low output current at 1% accuracy.

I am asking my colleagues to provide you a better option.

Hi Steve,

How about LP8556 which can support up to 50mA per channel and you can combine several channels together to driver higher current. And It also supports the direct PWM dimming.

Hi Sean,

many thanks for your answer. The LP8556 can only support up to 48V (50V) and i need at least 60V (fixed System Voltage). The maximum Forward Voltage from the Leds (1-16) can up to be of 55V in summary. Therefore i thougt the IC LM3463 for this application. I found in the datasheet, that he can support direct PWM dimming and i can adjustable the constant current with a external analog voltage. This is very ideal for my application.

What do you think from LM3463. Does it works? Which alternative component does it works respectively can you recommend me?

Hi Steve,

I have a quick look at the LM3643, it seems a powerful device, since this is not a device from our product line, how about TPS61199, but it can't guarantee the 1% accuracy.

Hi Sean,

yes i have already seen the IC TPS61199, but the maximum Voltage rating on the IFBx Pins is 30V. Do you know another parts for me?

For high voltage current sinks, you can check LP8867/9 or LP8863 whether can meet your requirement? Thanks.

Hi Sean,

no is unfortunately not possible. I only found IC LM3463 on your website. If your don't have any futhermore IC Application than i can controll the constant current with discret parts (OPs, Mosfet, ....). Or maybe the Powerful device team can furthermore check and test the LM3463 by yourself, if the LM3463 can handle 1-16 Leds and from 1...50mA by 60V fixed System Voltage and 10Khz (Direct PWM Mode)??
