WEBENCH® Tools/TPS54260: webench seems to be choosing inductor value too high

Part Number: TPS54260

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello

I'm confused please help.  TPS54260

My design 17v in 5v out @ 0.25a

For a number of good reasons I'm using the TPS54260-ep part at low current.  Webench power designer is suggesting 100uh output inductor.  This value produces a ripple current much lower than the suggested 150ma.  What am I doing wrong?  please see shared link for details.  Thank you

  • Hello Bill,

I would recommend using the attached calculator tool for your design. Hope this helps.

  • Hi Ankit

    Thank you for your response.

I like the spreadsheet you supplied.

I have three more designs to do with the tps54260.

Question: I think you are saying not to use webench power designer as a starting point, for the tps54260 designs? yes/no??

    thank you

  • Hello Bill,

I won't say don't use Webench at all. We have not got much of complaints regarding webench for TPS54k parts.  But it looks like Webench doesn't work well with light load applications. I would recommend using the calculator, especially for light load applications. Hope this helps!
