TPS22990: How to parallel 2 or more load switch together

Part Number: TPS22990

Hi team,

I have a customer wanted to evaluate our TPS22990 for their server application. however, they are looking at lower Rds_on solution and wondering if we could parallel 2 or 3 TPS22990 together to reduce the effective Rds_on.

what will be the consideration they need to take care for parallel operation? (could just use the same CT valur, or need to connect all the CT pin together?)

Or it is not recommended for parallel operation and should consider external FET solution (hotswap, TPS247xx)?

Regards,

SK Loo

  • SK Loo,

I will double check and get back to you on what the design consideration are for combining load switches in a parallel configuration, however from what you describe this might be somewhat of an over-engineered solution. An external FET solution like a hotswap controller would certainly be more elegant and save area on space.

We do have the following app note that uses a TI switch and examines some of the various design considerations to take into account:

I will also check internally and see if there are any resources I can find.
