TPS55340: “Lossless Current Sense” in the block diagram on the datasheet

Hello,

I have an question for TPS55430.
In the block diagram on section 7.2 of the datasheet(SLVSBD4D), there is “Lossless Current Sense”.
What kind of method is used for the Lossless Current Sense?
Now I’m investigating an issue on my customers board that after a few hours running under current limit condition, TPS55340 doesn’t recover Vout voltage even if removing the overload condition.
Then my customer just wonder what is this “Lossless current sense” in the block diagram and they just worry about the possibility that this current sense doesn’t work in high temp condition.

Hi Oba,

Thank you for consider the LM55340. The losses current sense is achieved by mirroring the power FET's current. The term is used against the conventional current sense with a sensing resistor. No additional resistor is used, hence no additional losses. Hope this clarifies.
