BQ25050: BQ25050 switching the battery charging off, but still supplying the unit power

Part Number: BQ25050
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24074

Hi Guys

With the control pin enabled, I can verify that the 4 pulses is close to 93mA, 5 pulses is close to 187mA etc.

My issue is with the single pulse. I am trying to stop the charging, but still keep the power path management operational. What is the purpose of the single pulse? “Force Termination” Is this not to stop the charging? I need a means of switching the battery charging off, but still supplying the unit power through the charger chip.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

  • Hello Rodney

The single pulse "Force Termination" will stop charge when unit is in voltage taper phase.  This is the point where unit has transitioned from Constant Current to Constant Voltage.

You are looking for a configuration that will power the system but not the battery, giving you max current.  You have tested the supplement mode that will supply current from both battery and out.  Is the voltage too low during this condition?

Would a full power path device such as BQ24074 work better in your application?
