BQ24640: Whether having solution in T-BOX

Part Number: BQ24640

Hi Team,

My customer wants to design a super capacitor solution in their automotive T-BOX(TCU) application.

Their requirement is when the T-BOX is power-off, T-BOX still can work for 5s-30s. The holding time is only 5-30s, so they consider to use super capacitor to achieve.

The holding voltage is 12V or 5V.

Customer also consider ADI solution as following.

Can our 24640 meet their requirement?

Thanks!

  • Hi Amelie,

Customer should evaluate whether their supercap can supply system (when TBOX is off, I am assuming input voltage is lost and that supercap should supply whole system) for the holding time of 5s-30s. If holding voltage is 5V or 12V, the BQ24640 can accomplish this as it has customizable charge regulation voltage from m 2.1 V to 26 V. Note that BQ24640 is not automotive qualified.

The Bq24640 charges a super capacitor in two phases: constant current and constant voltage (CC/CV). The device can charge super capacitors from 0 V with fast charge set on the ISET pin. When the super capacitor voltage reaches the programmed target voltage, charge current begins tapering down.

Let me know if there are other system requirements, and if you have more information on t-box system.
