TPS562201: OPEN at VFB pin

Could kindly advise how TPS562201 operate when VFB is open ?

    Hi Michiaki,

    This will cause the High Side FET to continuously switch, and Vout will rise to near Vin.

    Thank you for your prompt response.

     

    If Vout rise to near Vin, the operation will cause some load will be break down or burned because the regulation voltage is 3.3V.

    Could you kindly advise us any solution to avoid over stress to load when VFB is opened ?

    Hi Michiaki,

    1. We had done our FB open test in our lab. The Vout will go to VIN and then after a while, the part will enter UVP. During the UVP hiccup on time, the Vout is also the same with VIN.

    2. For our part TPS562201, we don't have OV protection. So there is no solution from TPS562201 side to avoid over stress to load when FB is opened. We don't recommend FB is opened and please refer to datasheet's layout instruction to design the FB trace on PCB.

    3. If the FB open can't be avoided, try to add a Zener between TPS562201 and the load to stabilize the next input voltage not higher than a certain value.
