LM5001: Tie VCC and VIN together

Part Number: LM5001

Hi team, working with a customer on this device. Using it for a POL boost from 9V rail to a 15V output.

Is it ok to tie VCC and VIN together to save some power dissipation?

Datasheet is section 7.3.1 states that the body diode of the internal MOSFET should never be forward biased. So, wanted to check if tying these pins together could cause a device reliability issue.

Thanks in advance!

  • Hi Kannan,

    Thanks for reaching out.

LM5001 VCC regulator series pass MOSFET includes a body diode between VCC and VIN that should not be forward biased in normal operation. Therefore, the auxiliary VCC voltage should never exceed the VIN voltage. VCC pin voltage should never exceed 14V so It should be ok to tie VCC to 9V Vin together.
