TPS568230: Description of Vin supply current and Definition of quiescent current

Part Number: TPS568230
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS568330, TPS62135, TPS56C215

Hi all,

I see the datasheet of TPS568230, Vin supply current when status is no load, VEN=3.3V and non-switching is 105uA.

And I also see special device datasheet named TPS568330. Vin supply current when status is no load, VEN=3.3V and switching is 110uA.

And my question is showing below.

1. What is difference between when device status is  no load, VEN=3.3V non-switching and no load, VEN=3.3V, switching.

And what is advantage of when status is no load, VEN=3.3V, switching.

2. What is definition of quiescent current ? VEN=high or low?

Thank you for your help.

Regards,

Roy

  • Hi Roy,

For Iq, it is Generally defined as IC in no load and non switching but enable asserted.

Switching and Non-switching are related to The internal mosfet turns on or turns off. When FB is slightly higher than VREF at PSM mode, IC will enter Non-switching, but Basically the current in these two states are similar for 568330, so “switching “is just used, which is closer to the real application.

  • Hi Yuchang,

    Thank you for your reply.

I also have a question about quiescent current. What is critical point to judge its value.

Because I see the TPS62135's Iq is only 35uA ,but the TPS568230 is 105uA. And TPS56,but the TPS568230 is 105uA. And TPS56C215 Iq is 600uA.

    What cause the difference?

    R ference?

  • Hi Roy,

The Iq value depends on internal logic design, while IC enters power save mode, in non switching or lower switching frequency, IC will turn off some internal logic circuit to save power, different IC with different functions has different driver logic circuits, loop control circuit and some other logic circuits...so different IQ shown in different parts. also as we know not all system applications must request low IQ.
