Hi,

I am facing TPL7407LADR burnt issue during power up. (when plug in power connector with DC12V and DC24V existed)

Refer to below image,

There is nothing connected to P301, P302, P303 and P304.

All the controlled signal (CTL_VALVE_1, CTL_VALVE_2, CTL_VALVE_3, CTL_VALVE_4) state during power up might be unknown.

DC12V and DC24V GND joined together in my PCB.

All the controlled signal are powered from DC12V (via DC-DC step down to MCU).

What is the possibility for it to be burnt up?

2 cases happened.

Please help to advise.

Hi,

Do you see any visible damage? what can be the transient levels during hot-plug?

Hi Rakesh,

The IC is caught fire. I suspect because of hot plug. If I connect the plug first then only turn ON power, so far I don’t see any issue. But the application allow hot plug.

Any possible way to avoid it from burnt during hot plug?

Electrobud,

Do you have any idea of the currents that are being seen through this device on a hot plug event? Maybe a scope trace that includes a current reading? If there was some sort of gross overvoltage or overcurrent event here that caused the device to go beyond it's max ratings it would explain the burning.
