BQ27421-G1: Power management forum

Part Number: BQ27421-G1

Hi Team.

Customers and I are trying to confirm bq27421 leakage current. Firstly, I would like to check if DS is correct.

I tired to test by G1A EVM. For sleep mode, I checked SLEEP mode in control status to ensure FG is in SLEEP mode. Also, I leverage fast hibernate to test hibernate.  However, what I measure is larger than spec. I noticed here is comments said thees values are specified by design. That's why I would like to the new value for production.

  • Hello,

These numbers are specific to our IC itself. You would need to add a current measurement directly on the VCC of this gauge, like add a series resistor and monitor the voltage drop across it for example.

I bet the current is higher due to you measuring the system current which often includes things ike I2C pull-ups or the host micro.

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos

  • Hi Eric,

Here is a test result to measure bq27421-G1D in sleep mode. What we can see the average current is close to 17.745uA.

What I confused is the the frequency of current spike. I think the frequency should be 20s/times but it doesn't.

    Could you explain this symptom?

  • Hello,

This to me looks like the gauge is not in sleep mode.  How are you confirming it went into sleep.

There is an internal setting that tells the gauge how often to take samples. This value could have also changed.

    Thanks,

    Eric Vos

  • Under this test, the average is 17.7 uA. This is close to the sleep current in DS.

I am looking forward your test result to prove that I can see the same value with TI spec.

  • The power consumption with a CPU running is tough to bound. This is why our specs are typical.

Make sure you are not entering hibernate on the fast hibernate settings on the TRM. Other than that, the gauge performance is as is.
