TPS568215: OVP work when upper FB resistor comes off

Part Number: TPS568215
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV62585

Hi,

I would like to confirm TPS568215 behavior in case of trouble.

If upper feedback resistor comes off during normal operation, will OVP work?

My customer is looking for the device that OVP work in above case.

Best regards,

Katsu

  • Katsu,

if remove upper resistor, FB will be tied to ground with lower resistor, Then cause UVP will happen after soft start and Vout possibly goes to higher than the target. OVP will not be triggered. Seems no part meet your request.

  • Hi Yuchang-san,

    Thank you for the reply.

I understand that OVP doesn’t work in that condition.

On the experiment, output voltage goes up about 10V even though Vout=5V setting. It is higher than absolute max input voltage (6V) of TLV62585 which is connected to TPS568215 output. If this condition continues, TLV62585 will not ignite?

If there is some risk, do we recommend other device instead?

    Best regards,

    Katsu

  • Katsu-San, Generally most parts work like this, I am not sure whether there is a device integrates this function, but if customer worry about this error, I recommend to add protection circuit or components to prevent, such as TVS..
