If a gas gauge/battery based on bq40z50r1 is shutdown because of a primary protection, what is the TI recommended power input for reading registers using bqStudio?

Typically, Normal primary protection does not shutdown the device. Please specify what is the specific primary protection in your concern.

If the device is shutdown, you have to power up the device at Pack pin so as to communicate with the device

To power up the battery from pack, a DC voltage equals to charging voltage would work, no specific requirements to max source current of this power, as long as a power supply with 100mA sourcing capability would work
