BQ25010: Simultanious operation of DC-DC converter as 3.3V supply and battery Charging 4.2V is possible?

Part Number: BQ25010
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24013, BQ24018

Want to use BQ25010 IC as DC to DC for power the system as 3.3V supply, also want to charge the 4.2V Li-Pol battery simultaneously. Is both operations are isolated. Always want to keep the system power 3.3V.

  • Hello

If the timer and termination is disabled the unit will behave similar to a current limited 4.2V power supply.  BQ24013 and BQ24018 has a /TTE pin that can be used enable or disable the Timer and Termination.

This would prevent termination of the charging and you should verify with the battery manufacture if this is acceptable.

  • Hello

My system voltage at any time should be less than 3.3V. expecting as below. in case of BQ25010 while charging the battery system voltage see the battery charging voltage.

  • Hello

The BQ25010 will regulate the system voltage to less than 3.3V and charge battery to 4.2V at the same time.  But some limitations on this.

Voltage for the system is produced by the DC to DC converter (FB sets output voltage).

Input to DC to DC converter is from the battery (pin 16/17 connection).

The battery is charged from AC or USB input.

Battery needs to be charged to provide the power for the DC to DC converter.  Also charging the battery and operating system at the same time will increase battery charge time and runs the risk of tripping safety timer fault.
