TPS54561: Light Load Operation Condition

Hi,

I'm going to use TPS54561 for Converting +12V(Variation 10%) from +9V with Load current of 300mA - 500mA(Max). For +12V supply 10% variation minimum voltage will be 10.8V and Max will be 13.2V.

I gone through the data sheet no minimum load requirement specs are given. Any other problems are there when operating continuously on light load conditions.

And also it should support for +28V(variation 10%) input supply also for same load current. Operating Input Range will be +10.8V to 30.8V and Output will be +9V.

Kindly tell as any other problems are there in using TPS54561 in above operating conditions.

Hi,

Just to clarify the operating conditions: Input voltage range is +10.8V to 30.8V. But what's the output range? 9V-12V or 10.8V-13.2V? Thanks.

Hi,

Then I think it‘s OK for TPS54561 working under this condition if the schematic and layout are good designed. When perform 10.8V to 9V, you need to choose a inductor with low DCR in case the voltage drop on inductor is too large to get a 9V output.
