Using the BQ27X00 Tester

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ27200

I have purchased the BQ27X00 Tester and I'm creating a test fixture to program my main board.  THe test fixture will hold the BQ27X00 tester and have test pins that land on the main board.  I want to make sure I hook things up correctly, so my question is about the 6 pin connector on the BQ27X00 tester.  What is the difference between PACK- and Batt-?

Perhaps I connected the BQ27200 incorrectly on my schematic, but here is the relevant section of the main board that I want to connect with the BQ27X00 tester:

(well, maybe that didn't work...)

Anyway, I'm essentially just looking for instruction on how to connect the BQ27X00 to my board.

Thank you.

David

  • The BAT(-) connects to the (-) terminal of the CELL.  The PACK(-) connects to the (-) terminal of the battery pack.  Note that these are very similar, but the difference is that the PACK(-) terminal connects to the rest of the system and is connected to the BAT(-) node through a current sense resistor.

If you look at the application schematic for the bq27200 (on page 2 of the data sheet), the PACK(-) and PACK(+) connect just where you think they should.  The HDQ is connected to the HDQ, and the PROG is connected directly to the PGM pin (pin 10).  BAT(-) will be connected to the minus terminal of the battery, which is "ground" in the application schematic.

    Note that SCL is unconnected.

Let me know if this helps,

  • Okay, thanks Charles.  It turns out that I just wired up the BQ27200 totally wrong. Somehow I ended up leaving the original, and incorrect, wiring in the schematic - so I get what I get for the prototypes, which is no use of the BQ27200...

You cleared it up for me, so I'll set this to resolved.  Thanks!
