UCC3895: how to prevent Surge L-PE +/- 4KV?

Part Number: UCC3895

Hi Team,

UCC3895 VDD will short to ground when doing the Surge L-PE +/- 4KV test.

Is there any way to prevent the UCC3895 broke from Surge L-PE +/- 4KV?

Thanks and best regards,

Jamie

  • Hi Jamie,

I have assigned an applications engineer to respond to your question you should see a respond by tomorrow.

  • Hi Jamie

Assuming that there is a boost PFC stage feeding its output to the UCC3895 power stage I'd look at the following.

1/ Do surge testing at a reduced voltage which does not damage the controller until the problem area has been identified and some corrective actions taken -

2/ How is the VCC rail to the UCC3895 generated ? can you add a resistor in series with the VDD rail ?

3/ Can you reduce the stray capacitance between the PE and GND/PGND ?

4/ Is there a voltage difference between PGND and GND of the IC

Can you send me the PCB layout (Gerber files) and the schematic, that would allow me to make better recommendations. You can send them to me directly at  colingillmor@ti.com
