BQ27421-G1: OCV data

Part Number: BQ27421-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: GPCCHEM

Dear Support team,

Could you please support below?

Q1. I guess this device will use the OCV data table in BQ27421 when performing Impedance Track ™. Would you disclose the OCV curve data, because I want to refer curve data?

Q2. Should I read the value with the StateOfCharge (), SOC, (0x1C and 0x1D) command when I want to check the remaining capacity when discharging?

Q3. If there is a big difference between the actual measured capacity and the value (SOC) obtained by the StateOfCharge () command, what can you guess the factors that occur?

Q4. What does the value read with the StateOfHealth () command represent for a battery?

Q5. What does the value read by the StateOfChargeUnfiltered () command represent for the battery?

Q6. We can found the description reading R_a in P.45 to 46 of bq27421 Technical Reference. Do I need to set Ra to perform Impedance Track? Is the default value OK?

Best Regards,
Hirokazu Takahashi

  • Let me go through your questions and then provide our answers.

  • Q1. I guess this device will use the OCV data table in BQ27421 when performing Impedance Track ™. Would you disclose the OCV curve data, because I want to refer curve data?
[Andy] As far as I know, the OCV table is NOT open to customers.

Q2. Should I read the value with the StateOfCharge (), SOC, (0x1C and 0x1D) command when I want to check the remaining capacity when discharging?
[Andy] Yes. SOC returns a predicted remaining battery capacity expressed as a percentage of FullChargeCapacity(), with a range of 0 to 100%.

Q3. If there is a big difference between the actual measured capacity and the value (SOC) obtained by the StateOfCharge () command, what can you guess the factors that occur?
[Andy] I guess your question is related to SOC accuracy. I don't there will be a big difference when the gauge device is properly configured. I would suggest you find the right part (BQ27421 has 3 differents part number) with the help of GPCCHEM.

Q4. What does the value read with the StateOfHealth () command represent for a battery?
[Andy] According to TRM, this function returns an unsigned integer value, expressed as a percentage of the ratio of predicted FCC over the DesignCapacity().

Q5. What does the value read by the StateOfChargeUnfiltered () command represent for the battery?
[Andy] You cand find the detailed explanations in the TRM.

Q6. We can found the description reading R_a in P.45 to 46 of bq27421 Technical Reference. Do I need to set Ra to perform Impedance Track? Is the default value OK?
[Andy] The Rab table will be updated during the learning cycle and discharge cycle.
