TPS2660: IEC61000-4-4 and IEC 61000-4-5

Part Number: TPS2660

My customer asked me a question related to IEC61000-4-5.
Let me confirm related to the question.
TPS2660x has load protection during surge(IEC61000-4-5) itself.  Is my understanding correct?

The datasheet of this device mentions that TPS2660x meets IEC61000-4-5 itself , but the following thread mentioned that the device meets both of IEC61000-4-4 and IEC 61000-4-5.

TPS2660x also has the capability to meet IEC61000-4-4?  If so, Is it described in any documentation?

Best Regards, Taki

  • Hello Taki

TPS2660x load protection will be active during surge event. During surge event device will detect  following conditions and turn off the FET

    1. Short circuit event (due to sharp current spike during surge event)

    2. Over voltage cut off or output voltage clamp (based on device variant)

IEC61000-4-4 defines EFT immunity test. Most of these transient pulses are of short duration and input decoupling capacitor at TPS2660 input pin should help absorbing these pulses.

You can find additional information about these system level tests in below application note.
