Hi team,

My csutomer is testing new UCC28600EVM-120W, and the following is test results:

1. Efficiency 75% @ 1A; Efficiency 83% @ 3A;

2. 0.5W standby power;

3. No overcurrent protection.

Do you think this is normal result? Please kindly give your comments.Thanks.

Hi Olin,

1. I would expect closer to 80% efficiency at 1A load based on Figure 21 in the UCC28600 EVM user guide.

2. Table 1 in the user guide lists 230mW at 115Vac and 420mW at 230Vac for no load standby power. Your customer's measurement seems higher than I would expect.

3. UCC28600 has overcurrent protection vias its CS pin. How high did your customer push the load?

Just check one point:

Could you please improve the efficiency? Our competitor can achieve 91% efficiency@1A.

Besides, is the 75% efficiency determined by the EVM design or is due to the UCC28600 IC?

Hi Olin,

If high efficiency is key careabout for your customer, would they be willing to consider active clamp flyback topology? UCC28780 should be able to beat any QR flyback in efficiency.
