Hi All,

Customer is using the BQ40Z50 in a 2S application. They run the learning cycle and Update Status goes to 0x06, all is good. Our app note SLUA903 indicates that the first field update will change Update Status to 0x0E and cell balancing will be enable.

Customer question; Can he run the second update cycle(in place of first field update) during golden image generation so that cell balancing is enable, rather than waiting for the first field update.

I would suggest your customer run the learning cycle again and then the LStatus will be 0E.

Just to be clear if they run another learning cycle the golden image will have cell balancing enabled.

That is OK?

Hi Joe,

The cell balancing will be enabled after the Update Status is 0E. See our explanations in the TRM.

Yes, I understand that, the question is can the customer do this "filed update" during the learning cycle that generates the golden image? So the FG has cell balancing enabled prior to field deployment.

In other words is there a reason for having the cell balancing enable in the field?

Hi Joe,

Yes. We suggest customers make sure that LStatus changes to 0E in their learning cycle to active cell balancing for multi-cell applications,
