TPS40170-Q1: design issue

Hi,

I am using TPS40170-Q1 IC as a dc-dc converter for my application.

My requirements:

48V input

12V output

12A max current

I didn't get the output initially when I gave the input and after some time the output capacitor has blown out along with some sparks near pins 20 and 13 of the IC(these sparks have destroyed the traces near these pins on the PCB).

*Electrolytic capacitors are placed properly by checking polarities.

I am attaching schematic and layout design, please look into it and suggest me a solution for this.

Hi,

Actually this dc-dc converter is a part of my circuit.

I am attaching complete layout along with polygon pours.

Hi,

The GND of Q2 should have a wide path connected to input and output GND plane, but it looks the connection is weak by only one via? You can use a higher voltage rating capacitor on the output and probe the output voltage to see whether there is an overshoot. Thanks.
