Need help with bq20z40, I cannot find how to make the chip work with BqTester /BqmTester

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ20Z40, BQMTESTER

Hi,

I need help with the settings in <config.ini>. For bq20z60 I found this:

Besides adding "bq20z60 v1.05", "600.1.05" to the <Target> file. You also need to add the following section to the <config.ini> file.

[D600]
Platform=32816
CalWr=60
DateOffset=12
ITOff_DFOff=18
ET1Off_DFOff=19
ET2Off_DFOff=20

For bq20z40 I added "Bq20z40 v1.04","400,1.04", and in the config.ini (the same settings that z60 use. I also tried the same values that z75 uses) Since I have no Idea what the right settings should be I really need help with this.

[D400]
Platform=32816
CalWr=60
DateOffset=12
ITOff_DFOff=18
ET1Off_DFOff=19
ET2Off_DFOff=20

This did not work and shows (error code =6) & Pass/fail error Code:65543. How should the correct settings look like in the config.ini file for Bq20z40 v1.04, and the R1 version if they are not the same ? Do I need to change anything else ? At this moment I have not bougt the cal-board, so Iam only using EV-20300.

Thanks
/J.

  • Here is the section you need to add to the config.ini file for z40 devices

    [D400]
    Platform=32816
    CalWr=60
    PkLotValid=0
    DateOffset=12
    ITOff_DFOff=18
    ET1Off_DFOff=19
    ET2Off_DFOff=20

    In the Target file, you should add "bq20z40 v1.04","400.1.04" with a dot not a comma.

    Error code 6 is a communication error or a wrong target is connected. Make sure you can communicate to the board under test with EVSW and that the device is not in ROM mode before connecting to the Mtester setup.

    Error code 65543 indicates a failure in calibration. It's a bogus error in this case because you have a comm. error.

    If you created a z40 .ROM file with TesterDFReader.exe before (with a non-working bqMtester setting), you should re-run the TeseterDFReader to re-create the .ROM file once you verify the updated Target and Config.in file works.

  • Thanks Jackie,

    I have been able to make connection thanks to the settings of the config.ini and target file.

    However when trying to calibrate with BqTester (single site) after passing the test and reconnect to bq evaluation software I read +350 to 500mA without any load or charger. The voltage reads +80-100mV off (true value). When we choose to just calibrate voltage it turns out OK.

    The settings in the global configuration :
    The battery config: 2S2P, 7,4V, 4800mA.

    We followed this setup.

    For the VTI configuration we have 8000mV, temperature: 24, Pack current 2000mA.

    We tried switching pos and neg connection on "Power Supply 1" and changed pack current to -2000mA. After this voltage reading turns out to be -40mV off, and current +330mA

    Is BqTester compatible with bq20z40? Has anyone made a good calibration on z40 with BqTester? Is there anything else we can do or try ?

    Best regards
    Johan

  • Johan,

    I'm sorry I didn't know you were using the single test station. Unfortunately, we no longer support bqTesetr the single test station. It has been replaced with bqMTester (http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/bqmtester.html).

    By the look of the global configuration windows, bqTester doesn't support z40 nor z60 devices because these devices require board offset calibration and that is not available in bqTester.

    Regards,

    Jackie

  • Jackie,

    Does the bqMTester provide board offset calibration for z40 ?

    Iam going to place an order on BqMTester multi channel test and program board. Can you please verify that this evaluationkit is compatible with z40.

    I would also like to have the open source code that is supposed to be provided upon request.

    Kind regards
    Johan

  • Johan,

    Yes, bqMTester provides board offset calibration and it supports z40. You might still need to update the config.ini and target file after installing bqMTester software though.

    Please provide your email addr for sending the source code

  • Thanks Jackie,

    Kind regards
    Johan
