CSD18543Q3A: Continuous drain current question

Part Number: CSD18543Q3A

Hi Team,

Customer want to use CSD18543Q3A in there project, and they get one question about the "Continuous drain current" spec listed in datasheet. What does it mean by "package limited" or "silicon limited"? Which rating should customer use if they want to use on their board? Hope you could give some comments.

Thanks and best regards,

Will

  • Hi Will,

Thanks for the inquiry. We recently updated our MOSFET landing page on TI.com. If you click on the Support & training tab you will find a blog series on Understanding MOSFET Datasheets. There is a blog explaining MOSFET continuous current ratings. Package current rating is a function of the interconnect between the silicon die and the package/leadframe. This can either be wire bonds or copper clip. The CSD18543Q3A uses wire bonding for the interconnect. As explained in the blog, the silicon limit is a calculated quantity. Actual performance in the customer's application is determined by the ambient conditions (temperature and airflow) and PCB design. What is the application and current requirement?

Welcome back, fellow FET enthusiasts to part three of the " Understanding MOSFET Data Sheets " blog series! Today I’ll be talking about MOSFET current ratings and how they’re not real. Ok, so maybe a better…
