BQ40Z50: Capacitors between cell measurement/balance lines (VC4-VC1)

Part Number: BQ40Z50

I am designing with BQ40Z50 fuel gauge to measure and balance 4 cell, using external balance circuit (3 N-CH, 1 P-CH).

TI documents show two different capacitor connections:

Appnote SLUA420A–May 2007–Revised January 2009, pg.3/7
Shows 0.1uF filter capacitors between VC4 & GND, VC3 & GND, VC2 & GND, VC1 & GND and 1k-ohm series resistors.

BQ40Z50 Datasheet SLUSCS4A –JUNE 2017–REVISED OCTOBER 2017, pg.28/52
Shows 0.1uF filter capacitors between VC4 & VC3, VC3 & VC2, VC2 & VC1, VC1 & GND and 100-ohm series resistors.

Why the differences? Which is best/recommended/correct method?

Thanks.
