Looking for an IC based power supply design that can handle 120V-180V DC input, 80VDC 100W output plus additional 5VDC 5W output with syncable switching frequency.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC25640, LM5021

The ony thing I am seeing on Ti's WebBench is the UCC25640 which isn't syncable and doesn't appear to actually be able to run off of such a high Vin. It is also ressonant while my appication favors simplicity for maximum MTBF as it will be used in underwater telecom and therefore expensive to retrieve and replace. Any Ideas?

  • Thank you! I am hoping I don't have to do a completely custom power supply as I don't have enough time for that. I would be happy with any power control IC that could handle the intput voltage and even just the 80V output. I can tack on a 5V outptut somewhere. Great line/load regulation is NOT required as there are switching regulators downstream. The synchronizable and therefore non-variable switching frequency is a must. I will be employing a single corona rated transformer for 5kV isolation. We do not want additional expensive transformers so any feedback must come from a winding in that transformer or via optocoupler. Look forward to hearing from you guys!

    I reviewed the specifications and I think the LM5021 is the part you should look at. This device is shown as an AC/DC device, but with 120-180Vdc input it will still work as expected. The RT pin can also be used for synchronizing, and it is fixed frequency.

    In regards to the power stage, at roughly 1.25 A output a flyback with a diode rectifier should give an efficient solution. The LM5021 also accepts optocoupler feedback so that should fit your regulation specification. We do not have any reference designs to show close specs, but we can review schematics if needed.
