LM51551: LM51551 for 4A load

Part Number: LM51551

Hi !

I am currently designing a boost converter circuit using LM51551 in an application for driving multiple LEDs. This is a battery based application. The current requirement is 4A peak when used to drive LED.  As this is similar to application used in machine vision, the on-time of LED is to the tune of 100ms to 150ms and hence this is continous.

Questions:-

1. Is this controller efficient enough to deliver 4A current.

2. I could not find detals on output load transient curves. The TI webbench is not able generate this. What will be the transient reponse to this regulator based on the design used in TI web-bench.

Parameters - 5V - 12V input

Output  - 24V

Current - 4A

  • Hi Abdu,

not sure what efficiency is good enough to you. but the efficiency is related to the external components and the switching frequency. you could use webench to simulate the efficiency or just apply an EVM for reference.

about the transient behavior, i would suggest to simulate with TINA model, which is easy to configure the loading and compensation value.
