Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2596,
Hi team,
Could you kindly advise the threshold current for fast trip at short mode ?
And please share the mechanism when fast-trip occurs.
Thank you and best regards,
Michiaki

Hello,
It will be dependent on the current limit that you set.
The mechanism is that it the channel is on and then a short occurs and the channel shuts off within 1 us. Then it turns itself back on and goes to the current limit value if the short is still there.
Hi Cameron,
Could you kindly provide the example for the operation at fast trip ?
Thank you and best regards,
Michiaki
Hi Cameron,
Sorry for pushing you but please give us application example at fast trip.
Customer would like to know how to estimate the trip point.
Thank you and best regards,
Michiaki
Hello,
I am not quite sure what you are asking for?
The fast trip response is when the channel is already on so EN, IN, and OUT are high and and a short circuit is introduced at the OUT pin. this will cause the current to rise up rapidly but the device will trip the fast trip response to shut down completely. Then the part will re-enable into the current limit that is set by the current limit resistor.
Hi Cameron,
What is trigger of fast trip ?
If fast trip is triggered by current , please give us the threshold.
If no, please kindly advise what trigger of fast trip is
I couldn’t find the detail of fast trip operation.
Thank you and best regards,
Michiaki
For instance, the datasheet of TPS2596 describes the mechanism for short-circuit protection as below.
But we couldn’t find the operation at short circuit and fast trip in the datasheet of TPS27S100.
Please kindly advise the operation at fast trip such as the datasheet of TPS2596.
Your understanding would be highly appreciated.
Thank you and best regards,
Michiaki
Hello,
Thank you for showing me an example of what you would like to know. I have changed it to describe the behavior of the TPS27S100
The current through the device increases very rapidly during a short-circuit event. When the device is enabled and output is high, If the current exceeds 1.5x ILIM, the device engages a fast current clamping circuit to regulate down the current faster than the nominal over current response time (tLIM) to shut down the device within 1us. The device does not completely turn off the power FET to ensure uninterrupted power in the event of transient over currents or supply transients. The device enables the channel into the current limiting mode where the current is held at the level set by the external resistor. The device stops limiting the current once the load current falls below the programmed ILIM threshold or the device hits thermal shutdown.
This is shown in the picture from the datasheet.
