BQ24610: BQ24610 overcurrent behavior for charge current

Part Number: BQ24610

Hello team,

My customer would like to understand overcurrent behavior for charge current.
He set the overcurrent  threshould  0.1A as below.

Rs = 56mohms
VISET=0.6V
VREF=3.3V
SPR - SRN = almost 26mV @0.5A

When the charge current become larger than 0.5A, high side sw get off although he is considering the overcurrent behavior start at 160% of 0.5A ( 0.8A).
Is this behavior is correct or not?

If he should confirm anything, would you please let me know?

Your advise would be so appreciated.

  • Hi Akihisa,

        OCP in BQ24610 is done by turning HSFET off for the cycle where charge current sensed across RSR (sense resistor between SRP and SRN), when sensed current is 160% of programmed charge current when SRP>2.2V. From customer's setting, charge current is set to 535mA.

    What is voltage on SRP when customer is testing OCP? It will be good to look at inductor current for when OCP is active. Have customer solder a wire loop in series with inductor, for example: wire between PH pad and inductor, and inductor connected to BAT pad, so that a current probe around the wire can measure inductor current. On scope, capture HIDRV, IL and SRP, when charge current is increased into OCP condition.

    What is minimum value of charge current (along with SRP-SRN differential voltage measurement) at which cycle by cycle OCP kicks in?

  • Kedar-san,

    Thank you for your comment.
    I am waiting for the customer feedback, now. However it may take much time.
    I will ask again in another thread or direct email to you if the customer have additional questions.

    Best Regards,
    Akihisa Tamazaki
