BQ40Z80EVM-020: bq40z80EVM connection to a smart-charger?

Part Number: BQ40Z80EVM-020
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z80, EV2400

Hi,

I want to connect the BQ40Z80EVM-020 to a smart battery charger (dc512b dev board of Analog) which support the SMbus v 1.1. protocol.

  1. As I understood from the trm of bq40z80, I should enable the "Charge Control SMBus Broadcasts" . I set only the [BCAST] bit to 1 (bit 0 in SBS configuration) with HPE and CPE to 0 (no Packet Error Checking). Should I enable the CPE?
  2. conf of the EVM  board: The bq40z80EVM Quick Start Guide in the chapt. "2.3 EVM Connections" is reported

"If the external EV2400 is used, attach the communications interface adapter cable to J19 and to the
SMB port on the EV2400. The jumper settings for J18 should be to connect pins 2 and 3, and the
jumper settings for J should be to connect pins 1 and 2. This allows the external EV2400 to talk to the
bq40z80 over SMBus."

It is not clear the "J" connector I think that is the J22. Can you confirm?  Are you sure that the first jumper has connection between 1&2 and the second between 2&3? Seems that they are equal.

In any case I tried to move the two jumpers J22 and J18 to switch the messages (BCast) to the external interface (J19) but no activity is triggered by the oscilloscope.

Should I configure other settings to have messages for the smart charger?
Thanks
