LM25118: output cap selection

Part Number: LM25118

My customer would like to replace output caps to Ceramic type cap from Electrolytic capacitor.

I have checked RESR of COUT will be decreased significant and then this will be huge decline to output ripple voltage.

This is impact to Err-AMP response. But please kindly advise any other negative impact if changes to Ceramic cap?

I have attached WEBENCH results by customer just for your reference.

  • Hi Yoshimura,

Thanks for reaching out with your question and for using the LM25118.

Decreasing the ESR of the output capacitor bank will increase the ESR zero of control loop to higher frequencies. This should should not impact the control loop as this zero tends to be higher than the right-half plan zero in buck-boost mode.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
