TPS3824-33 Watchdog Timeout Spec

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3824

Is there any way to consistantly acheive a 1.6s watchdog timeout?  We discovered that we are pulsing it at 1.22s (1st pulse), then 1.0 seconds (thereafter).  Can you provide information on what these parts are actually running at?  The data sheet says that the minimum guaranteed tout is 0.9 sec, which is obviously less time than our system is hitting it at.  Thank you.

  • Unfortunately, there is not way to guarantee the TPS3824 watchdog timer will not time out at 0.9s.  There is not anything you can do to the IC to modify this built in timing.  There are several other SVS products with watchdog timers that have different timeout times.  The power management selection guide is a good place to look at all the SVS products in one location.  http://focus.ti.com/analog/docs/powerhome.tsp?familyId=64&contentType=4&DCMP=TIHomeTracking&HQS=Other+OT+home_p_power  Will on of these work for you. If you must use this IC, and option that might work but will require additional circuitry is to add an additional clock generation circuit between your uP and the SVS. Your watchdog timing signal could trigger the timing circuit to generate pulses that are faster than 0.9s as long as it receives pulses from your uP.
