TPS3305 WDI function

I was wondering if the watchdog function remains active if the WDI pin is left unconnected?  While doing emulation with the dsp, it is possible that I would stop on a step, leaving the processor halted for some time and would not desire a reset in this state.  I would place a jumper on the board to break the WDI connection while doing these activities.

  • You can find the answer in:

TPS330x Supervising DSP and Processor Applications

"The watchdog input (WDI) is supervised by a transition detector to reset the watchdog timer at
each positive or negative transition. If this input is not electrically connected, an internal driver
with a 40-kΩ resistor delivers the necessary transitions in time, so that RESET is not asserted."

Grab the white paper - will probably be of interest:

In short - just float it.  Do not use a pull-up or you will defeat the internal circuitry.
