TPS62840: temperature

Hi,

For the TPS62840 I see the operating junction temperature to be -40 to +125. Is this the range operating ambient temperature as well?

The datasheet does not specify the operating ambient temperature.

For a lot of TPS series regulators, the junction temperature is specified but not ambient temperature. In those cases, should we consider the operating range to be equivalent to the junction range?

    Hi Chethan,

    In general, the ambient temperature range can be as wide as the junction temperature range. There is no limitation from a package point of view.

    The assumption is that the ambient temperature is 25 degrees Celsius or room temperature typically. But if you want to be very accurate you could do thermal simulations. The ambient must be lower than operating temperature to dissipate heat from the PCB to the ambient but the reverse also holds true in rare conditions.
