WEBENCH® Tools/BQ77915: BQ77915 Communication

Part Number: BQ77915
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ76920

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hello,

I want to know is there any way i can use BQ77915 IC to send its data to a MCU such that i can detect SOC/SOH/Voltage etc.

Or i need to use any other IC with this IC or can you suggest me any other protector IC with this feature.

  • Hi Ankit,
BQ77915 is a protector IC and works independently of a MCU. Protectors are usually the second level of protection, and the first level of protection comes from a monitor or a gauge. If you want to communicate the cell voltages and currents to a MCU for system level decisions, but don’t need a pre-packaged gauge solution, then a monitor may be the right choice. For a <=5s battery pack, you might look at BQ76920.

BTW here are two videos (1 & 2 - slides can be downloaded too) explaining the differences between a protector, a monitor and a gauge.
