LM3553: Drive 1 LED from 5Vin

Part Number: LM3553
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM36010

Hi, Team

My customer is working with LM3553 in a application of drive 1* LED. Power supply is 5V only.

LED: VF        ID

Max: 3.5V     350mA

Min:  2.9V     100mA

They are using the single LED schematic from datasheet.

 RSET is 39KOhm.

Since this device is a boost converter, if vin=5V, means output >=5V.

Does it can work as a constant current LED driver as we set?

Any risk for design?

  • Hi Harson,

I would suggest using LM36010/1 for this application. From your description, it is ok, since this is an adaptive boost topology when Vin is high enough, it will work under pass mode. Don't worry about this.
