TPS4H160-Q1: TPS4H160-Q1 Quad channels join together to drive 7.5A load

Part Number: TPS4H160-Q1

Hi,

I am looking to use TPS4H160-Q1 in an automotive +24V application to drive a inductive load of 7.5A maximum. I have following two questions regarding it:

1) Can I join all 4 channels of TPS4H160-Q1 in parallel to drive a single load of 7.5A maximum? I am hoping to set a current limit of 1.87A for each channel to achieve it.

2) The application doesn't need to detect the open load condition. If the recommended 20k pull-up resistor is not placed (as per 8.3.6.2.2), would the device function normally including protection features?

Many thanks.

  • Hello,

What is the maximum voltage you are trying to use the device in? 24V automotive applications normally have almost 60V load dump requirements which the device would not be able to do.

We have an app note about paralleling channels

All of the protection features will work, however the diagnostics will need to be switched between all of the channels using the select pin to measure the total current and open load detection will not be possible in the off state.
