TPS2546: Power auto reset when changing mode

Part Number: TPS2546

Hi Team,

My customer is using TPS2546 and have a question to ask, they measure that the Vout will reset when they changing the mode(S0 to S3 , S3 to S0), and they wanted to make sure with us that is this normal device behavior or not, and any document describe about this function?

I think that this is normal for TPS2546 , the Vout will reset(turn off then on again) when change mode(S0 to S3 , S3 to S0), however I don’t know if I’m correct or not ,and also not sure where’s datasheet have specific description of this ,could you kindly help to let me know where on d/s or any related app note describe of this function ?

  • Hi Andy,

It is normal and expected behavior for a VBUS discharge during mode changes. The flow chart in section 9.1 in the TPS2546 details when which mode change will lead to a VBUS discharge and when there will not be a VBUS discharge. Also, section 9.1.1 discusses why an output discharge is used: to renegotiate current.

    Thanks,

    Emma
